The King’s Road business community has voted overwhelmingly to renew the King’s Road Partnership’s mandate for a second five-year term, unlocking £5.8 million of ring-fenced investment directly into the district between 2026 and 2031.
The ballot returned a turnout of 65%, with 96% of businesses voting in favour by number and 99% by rateable value, comfortably meeting the statutory requirements and securing a convincing majority across both measures.
The turnout figure is the standout result. The 65% turnout result was well over the national average for second-term BID renewal ballots, which stands at 39.9% according to British BIDs. It is the clearest possible signal that businesses are invested in the future of the street.
The result also means that the King’s Road Partnership will expand its designated area to include Burnsall Street, Chelsea Manor Street, Jubilee Place, Mallord Street, Markham Street, Old Church Street, Sydney Street and Tryon Street, welcoming 39 new member businesses. The Partnership will now represent more than 250 businesses across the entire district.
The vote enables the Partnership to deliver its 2026–2031 business plan, built around three pillars: PROTECT, ENRICH and THRIVE. Over the next five years the Partnership will continue to invest in district-wide safety and security, take forward the King’s Road Action Plan co-designed with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, invest in enhanced street cleansing, expand direct business support, advocate on the issues that matter to businesses including VAT Free Shopping and Business Rates Reform, and provide practical marketing support .
Steven Medway, Chief Executive at the King’s Road Partnership, said:
“I’m incredibly proud that businesses on the King’s Road have voted overwhelmingly to keep investing in this street, and to trust us to deliver on that investment for another five years. That carries real weight in the current climate. Costs are rising and every pound is rightly scrutinised, which makes it a responsibility we don’t take lightly.
“I want to thank every business that voted. Our business plan was built on direct engagement with our members, and we will keep listening as we deliver. What I’m especially pleased about is the appetite from businesses in the expanded area, who will join the Partnership for the first time this term. A bigger district and a broader membership make for a stronger collective voice for the King’s Road district.
“This is the starting line of a new term. We look forward to strengthening the community that makes this one of the most recognised streets in the world, and to delivering the change businesses have told us they want to see.”
Hugh Seaborn, Chair of the King’s Road Partnership Board and Chief Executive of Cadogan, said:
“The King’s Road Partnership’s continued success is rooted in collaboration, shared purpose and a commitment to protecting the strength and distinctiveness of one of London’s most vibrant destinations.
“Over the past five years, the Partnership has delivered tangible value: strengthening safety and security, improving the public realm, and providing a collective voice for local businesses. This progress has been made possible through genuine partnership with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and the active participation of our members.
“This next term is an opportunity not just to maintain momentum, but to build on it. Thank you to every business that voted. Together, our commitment is to ensure the King’s Road remains a place where businesses thrive, visitors feel welcome and we can all take pride in its future.”
Cllr Elizabeth Campbell, Leader of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, said:
“The King’s Road Partnership gives businesses a strong, effective collective voice and plays a central role in shaping the future of this district. The Council is proud to work with them. Their commitment to bring businesses and partners together, achieving economies of scale and alignment on shared priorities, is exactly the kind of collaborative leadership needed. It will drive meaningful, long-term improvement on one of this borough’s most important streets. We take great pride in the public realm along the King’s Road, so it’s fantastic to see such a positive endorsement from businesses who want our partnership to continue.”
The Partnership’s next five-year term will officially begin on 1 October 2026 and run until 30 September 2031, delivering the commitments set out in the 2026–2031 business plan. The full business plan is available at kingsrdpartnership.com/ballot.
