Chelsea Physic Garden

Sitting on the Thames Embankment, and sheltered by high walls, Chelsea Physic Garden is one of the oldest and most respected botanic gardens in Europe. It is the oldest in London, and only surpassed in age, in England, by Oxford Botanic Garden. Founded in 1673 by The Worshipful Society of Apothecaries of London for its apprentices to study medicinal plants and their uses, it became one of the most important centres of botany and plant exchange in the world.

Royal Hospital Chelsea

The Royal Hospital Chelsea is a retirement home and nursing home for some 300 veterans of the British Army. Founded as an almshouse, the ancient sense of the word "hospital", it is a 66-acre site located on Royal Hospital Road in Chelsea. Some 300 army veterans live at the Royal Hospital today, including those who have served in Korea, the Falkland Islands, Cyprus, Northern Ireland and World War II.

The Area

With independent shops and restaurants, theatres and galleries, the King’s Road is a place of discovery with an enduring sense of style. The BID area boundaries cover the much-loved Peter Jones store on Sloane Square in the east and go as far as Beaufort Street in the west, although we engage with our neighbours to support projects that will benefit the wider district.
