Public Art Trail ‘The Chelsea Look’ Launches

Kensington + Chelsea Art Week (23 June – 3 July 2022) is fast becoming one of the key moments in London’s cultural calendar, a celebration of the borough’s artistic legacy and its abundant creative future.

The event’s Public Art Trail – a series of temporary installations – remains in situ throughout summer, displaying world-class pieces throughout the royal borough in some of West London’s most beautiful and iconic sites.

As part of this year’s Trail, artist Román Lokati has developed a new body of work titled ‘The Chelsea Look’, with works inspired by Chelsea style icons through the years, from Vivienne Westwood to the celebrated Chelsea Pensioners.

Explore the six ‘Chelsea Look’ installations:

– Vivienne Westwood at Royal Avenue, on the King’s Road
– Mary Quant at Duke of York Square
– Chelsea Pensioner at Duke of York Square
– A young couple at the top of Pavilion Road
– A punk – The Cadogan Hotel on Sloane Street
– 60’s style – the Hermes corner on Sloane Street, opposite Cadogan Gardens

Based primarily on human observation in bustling metropolises, Lokati’s pieces capture the vibrancy and dynamism of everyday life. Locals, visitors and passers-by can spot the beautiful, colourful silhouettes brimming with character and energy across the neighbourhood, honouring style icons that have become synonymous with Chelsea.

Román Lokati is a multidisciplinary artist born in Cádiz, Andalusia. He started his studies at the School of Arts and Crafts of Cádiz in 1988 before moving on to Central Saint Martins and the London College of Communication, where he graduated in 2006. He currently lives in London.

Lokati has exhibited at many prestigious locations, including as part of the Tate’s ‘Inside Job’ exhibition, and currently as part of a residency with another fashion icon, Paul Smith.
